A building apartment within the courtyard of the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, was razed on Friday night.
The incident which occured around 11:30pm was triggered by power surge which exploded through electrical appliances in the apartment.
Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Comrade Moses Olafare confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

Olafare said that the inferno however did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the premises, as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service & Palace Emergency Control Unit.
He added that the incident did not record casualties, injuries, or even the loss of any cultural item.
