First anniversary: Osun Assembly reiterates commitment to pass bills to transform lives citizens

Osun State House of Assembly members have reiterated their commitment to pass the bill that wound transform the lives of the citizens of the state, as the 7th Assembly
marked first year anniversary.

Speaking at the special session of the Assembly, the Speaker Rt Hon Timothy Owoeye on Tuesday said, We are going to keep focusing on bills that will transform the lives of our people as well as deploy robust system that will make our oversight effective.

Owoeye maintained that the the seventh Assembly had successful delivered quality legislation and ensured effective oversight; accountable and democratic assembly; electronic parliament, effective public engagement and legislative research centre.

He further said that the coronavirus pandemic has negative impact on global economy which is of serious concern, pledged that Osun lawmakers wound create a COVID-19 economic conducive environment for residents.

“This pandemic has taken a toll on the global economy and this Assembly is concerned about the dwindling economic fortune, the job losses among others. We must fashion out a way to rescue our people most especially those who fell into the poverty Index due to the coronavirus pandemic

“The Assembly is considering a stimulus bill that will greatly assist our people and better our economy, we are going to work with the Executive and critical stakeholders to make sure that the bill covers all critical areas of a post-COVID economy

He however, commended the present administration under Governor Gboyega Oyetola for promoting harmonious relationship between the three arms of government in the state.

However, Governor Oyetola lauded the leadership and members of the seventh Assembly for demonstrating high sense of patriotism, forthrightness and commitment since its inauguration.

He eulogized them for being supportive of the other two arms of government particularly the Executive without compromising its independence in the last one year.

Oyetola attributed some of the landmark achievements his administration had recorded to the hands of fellowship and unalloyed cooperation received from the House in particular and the Judiciary in general.

In attendance at the special session; former Speakers of the state House of Assembly; Barrister Wale Afolabi, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, Barrister Adejare Bello and Dr. Najeem Salam; members of the State Executive Council, top government functionaries, political stalwarts among others.
