The senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, in Osun state, Senator Adelere Oriolowo, on Wednesday, empowered not less than 600 farmers and traders with farm incentives.
Speaking at the programme in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) in Iwo, Senator Oriolowo said the gesture was borne out of his passion to develop his constituents to be self reliance as promised during his campaign.
Oriolowo said the empowerment programmes are birthed out of commitment and services to humanity.
Speaking on behalf of Oriolowo, Honourable Tajudeen Ayofe Adisa said Senator Oriolowo prioritize the well-being of farmers especially in his constituency, and that gave birth to the empowerment programme at hand.
“If everyone would be honest, they would undoubtedly acknowledge that Senator Oriolowo has done alot in this Senatorial District. He has done so many empowerment programmes for the people. I think this is the twenty-sixth empowerment programme.
“Senator Oriolowo is the first Senator, who is in his first term and able to facilitate the establishment of a College of Education. He facilitated it for Osun West. And what about his road projects? Anyone here can attest to so many he has done.
“On Education, he brought National Library to Osun. He went ahead to build blocks of classrooms in Ikire, Okinni, Ola Oluwa, and other places.
“On Diplomacy, he facilitated (International) Passport Office which will commence in the earnest. He said.
While responding on behalf of the farmers, Osun State Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alh Sulaimon Araokanmi applauded Senator Oriolowo for his interventions in agriculture.
“We are extremely pleased with what has happened here. We are very pleased. The significance of this gesture is that, it will solve to a very great extent the challenges of farmers in the state. It has been one of our greatest challenges especially the lack of equipment and now that he has done it, to use it is a massive gift. We have never seen this kind of gesture before.
“We will use the equipment very well. This is non-political gift and amongst us we have people who are from different political group and we promise that we will make optimum utilisation of this tractors to boost Agriculture in our state”.
“I call on all the local government chairmen to be dutiful as they did at Osun Central.
He afterwards enjoined them to distribute the equipment as due in their respective locations so as not to cause disruptions.
Some of the farmers at the empowerment program went home with Tricycles, while every other farmer got knapsack Sprayer, chemicals, and many other farming tools.
