Fountain University 6th Inaugural lecture

A Professor of Physical and Computational Chemistry, Professor Moriam Adeoye, has called for increased research funding and expanded grant eligibility to drive scientific progress in Nigeria.

Prof. Adeoye charged the government and stakholders in education sector to prioritize consistent investment in scientific research especially in physical chemistry to inspire students evidence based knowledge.

She disclosed this on Thursday at the 6th Inaugural lecture held at a privately owned Institution in Osun State, Fountain University in Osogbo, osun state capital, which was the first inaugural lecture to be delivered by a female professor at the university.

The lecture titled “Physical Chemistry: Winnowing Deep Truths from Profound, Beautiful Nonsense”, is intriguing, suggesting a journey through the complexities of physical chemistry, separating fundamental truths from potentially misleading or confusing ideas within the field.

Prof. Adeoye urged the federal government to support policies that link academic research with industrial needs for practical impacts.

According to her, the government should Priontize consistent investment in scientific research, especially in Physical Chemistry, which is vital for progress in energy, health, environment, and raterials science.

“In achieving this the government should child away from having to recognize only the government institutions and include all accredited private universities in TEl Fund research grants to boost national research output, promote public-private collaboration, ensure fairness, and stimulate innovation and commercialization.

“They should also extend the private institutions the TETfund research grant to private universities if they want meaningful contributions from private universities.”

However, commending the lecturer, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ramata Kareem, corroborated the need for federal encourage academic researches with industrial innovation for the greater good of the country.

She added that the feat achieved by Professor Adeoye could spun other female lecturers in the university to brake new academic grounds.
