Iga Swiatek didn’t have the year she had last year, but she’s had a very good year overall, having won 5 WTA trophies this year.

Swiatek had an amazing year last year, winning two Grand Slam trophies and winning 37 matches in a row. Those types of performances allowed her to play in several finals, many of which she won.

In total, there were nine finals and only one loss in those finals. This year’s hasn’t been as good as she won only one Grand Slam whilst losing her number one rank to Sabalenka as well.

Besides that, she ‘only’ won five trophies. The 5th one came at the China Open recently as she defeated Liudmila Samsonova in the final. That’s the best mark this year, as no other player on the women’s Tour was able to win five trophies this year.

It speaks volumes to how good Swiatek still is, which is what Coco Gauff talked about recently when discussing the season of Swiatek.

The Polish player played more finals than the ones that she won. The total this year is 7, but she lost two of those, so essentially, she’s only two finals short of last year and three trophies short.

It’s fairly similar, and it’s proof that she’s still one of the best players in the world, which her ranking confirms as well. She has a chance to reclaim number one, and she hopes to do that in the future, but she’ll need a strong finish to the year.

She won’t play any more events until the WTA Finals, so basically, there is only one more event that she can realistically win. If she does, she’ll get number six, which will be the most on Tour. It’s not a particularly important thing but important for the Polish player to build her legacy.
