The Speaker, State of Osun House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has commended Nigerians for keeping faith in the country despite the challenges faced by the nation.
Owoeye, in a statement issued in commemoration of Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary, charged Nigerians to be committed to the sustainability of the country and it’s integrity..
He said in the statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Alabi, that citizens should be inspired by the country’s compatriots who kept faith in the development and progress of the country inspite of numerous challenges.
Owoeye held that Nigeria’s greatness is unstoppable, urging Nigerians not to despair, but have renewed hope in the Nigerian project.
He reflected that if Nigeria can withstand all the shocks it went through in 61years of nationhood, then her greatness is unstoppable.
He said: “In these past decades, we have lived with the mixed reality of abundance and lack, peace and conflict, hope and despair. Despite the challenges, we have kept faith in the strength of our unity and stood firmly to uphold Nigeria’s honour and glory.
“It is for this spirit, that we have always emerged stronger in the face of trials. I will urge us all to believe in a strong Nigeria no matter what the country is going through; Nigeria will survive, we should keep hope alive.
“The problems facing our country are not insurmountable, we must all have faith in the wellness of a one Nigeria, we must continue to make meaningful contributions to our national growth and development.
“I called on Nigerians to “honour the memory of those who committed their lives towards advancing the course of our freedom and wellbeing, which this day signifies.”
“We should also be inspired by the efforts of our numerous compatriots whose heroism and patriotic endeavours have continued to lift the status of our nation.
The Speaker however advised that political class should always strive to put the nation before personal interest, stating that It is incumbent on all to make sacrifice for the greater good of the country and our people.
