The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Saturday disclosed that the commission is fully prepared to conduct free, fair, credible governorship election in Osun state in July 16th.
Speaking, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Abdulganiy Raji said that the commission has taken delivery of all the non-sensitive materials for the governorship poll in the state.
Raji stated this in Osogbo, Osun state capital at the capacity building for the journalists on the innovation in the conduct of the election and the Constitutional issue in the new electoral act organized by the Commission.
According to the REC, “we have ensured that voter education sensitization gets to the electorate. We covered all the primaries of political parties . All the political parties now have their candidates and the list has been made official to the public.”
Commending the electorate for their positive turnout for the collection of their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, he noted that the turnout of the registered voters is massive.
He urged the Osun residents who are yet to collect their PVCs to cooperate with the body, saying the commission will ensure delivery of all voter cards before the day of the election.
He called on all the residents to shun violence before ,during and after the election, urging them to allow free, fair and credible poll.
Also speaking, the commission’s voter education commissioner, Festus Okoye said the new Electoral Act 2022 has now barred political parties and candidates from filing election litigations after the exercise has been concluded in another states of the federation.
Okoye noted that after the Electoral Act 2022 has been assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of reform of the commission any candidate who files election litigation in another state will be referred back to his/her state.
It was gathered that in the past candidates of political parties filed election litigations in different states to sought redress over election conducted in another states.
