Commemorating the 2023 World Environment Day (W.E.D), with professionals from over 143 countries globally, the Environmental Health Officers in Lagos State, under the leadership of the State President, San. Dr. Akinyele Cyril B. (fWAPCEH) of the Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria (EHOAN), Lagos State Chapter, are joining in proferring solutions to Plastic Pollution in the environment, under the global campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.

The celebration, which started June 5th 1973 and is 50 years this year, aims at raising awareness and actions on Environmental Issues.

Towing the lines of the year 2023 Theme; Solutions to Plastic Pollution, Environmental Health Officers across the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health, Safety commission and 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas shall be;

– “Catching them young”; engaging students in schools, teaching then about Plastic management, recycling, Reuse, amongst others.

– Clearing notoriously clogged water ways across the state, to improve free flow of water courses and water ways.

– Engaging communities, CDAs, NGOs, Companies, etc, in order to influence participation.

These are a few among the several outlined actions of the Environmental Health Officers in the State.

The members of the public are hereby enjoined to join the Environmental Health Officers in this sojourn of making the Lagos Environment better, by reporting Environmental and Public Health Infractions, through these Association’s dedicated lines;

08144974635 – WhatsApp Messages, Text Messages and Calls

The United Nations reports that over 400 million tonnes of plastics are produced every year, half of which are ‘single-use’ design. About some 23 million tonnes end up in different water bodies, posing critical threats to aquatic lives and the environment.

It is not uncommon in Lagos State for example to find water ways clogged with myriads of plastics of different shapes, sizes and colours, which continues to exacerbate the flooding narrative in the state, not to mention the attendant public health concerns.

This, amongst many other reasons, is why the EHOAN Lagos has decided to come all out and face the situation head-on, towards a better Environment for all Lagosians.

The EHOAN Lagos Executives are poised to rebranding the image of the Environmental Health *Practice* and of Officers generally in the state.

It is our appeal to the citizen of Lagos State to cooperate with the Enviromental Health officers across lagos state in achieving a healthy living and better environment Lagos for all.
