A recent World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) study ranked Lagos ahead of Cape Town, Riyadh, Johannesburg, Singapore City, Amsterdam and Warsaw, among others.

According to Global Index, which reported the story through its X, formerly Twitter, handle @TheGlobal_Index, the ranking is based on 82 major tourist city destinations and estimates of GDP and employment directly generated by the travel and tourism sector in these cities.

The study said, “By 2032, Lagos, Nigeria, is predicted to have the largest share of business travel spending in the world. Lagos’ share of business spending is anticipated to make up more than half of the city’s tourism spend and is joined by fellow cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia in the top four.”

Other Cities listed by the study in the top 10 include Singapore City, Singapore; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Warsaw, Poland; Brussels, Belgium; Stockholm, Sweden and Zurich, Switzerland.

Lagos State was recently ranked as the 19th Best City to visit in the World by a British Media and Hospitality Company, Time Out, ahead of Melbourne, Naples, Singapore, Miami, Dubai, Beijing, and Montreal, among others.

Time Out said the rankings published on its website were drawn from a survey of more than 20,000 city dwellers around the world, as well as from its network of editors.
