Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, has explained why his team lost 1-0 against Mallorca in Sunday’s La Liga tie.
Ancelotti watched as Nacho’s own goal gave Mallorca all three points against Los Blancos as Marco Asensio missed a penalty during the encounter.
The outcome of the match means Real Madrid are five points behind leaders Barcelona on the La Liga table.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Ancelotti said that his team lost because his players suffered because of the early goal they conceded and also the penalty Asensio missed.
The Italian said: “It’s a loss that hurts a lot, but we expected the game would be like this, difficult with lots of fouls and interruptions. We prepared for a game like this. We suffered because of the early goal conceded. Then, the missed penalty obviously affected the final result too.”
He added, “I don’t think it was a bad game, but I think it was a different kind of game from usual, atypical. There should have been more yellow cards for them, not because the fouls were particularly bad but for consistent fouling. Now, we focus on the Club World Cup and then we will come back to fight for La Liga until the end.”
