Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said Nigerians can also contribute their quotas to the development of their various community to whatever government is doing.

Obasanjo disclosed this on Saturday at the 29th Owu national convention held in Kuta, Ayedire local government area of Osun State.

According to Obasanjo one of the aims of national convention is to bring sons and daughters of Owu together for the development of their settlement.

He further said they have been contributing to development and progress of the Own towns to assist the government.

While stating the objectives of the annually convention, Obasanjo said the national convention was to help the people in upgrading their standard of living and see what they can do to build skills and empower women of Owu who need such.

Obasanjo said, “We congratulate Owu sons and daughters of wherever they maybe on this special occasion of the 29th of our getting together annually to rob mind on the development of own settlement in Nigeria and the world at large.

“Government can do development but we can also add little to development of our communities and villages to whatever government is doing.” he added

But the traditional ruler, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama said there is no major nation building or national development without Owu involvement since the inception of the country.

The monarch stressed that the convention has being grazing the unity and peace among Owu towns and neighbours in Nigeria.

Oba Makama charged the sons and daughters that are not being participating in the convention to set aside the days to participate in Owu activities.

“This year’s celebration of Owu national convention is significant because we have friends from far and near. This program has also show up economic of the state.

“We believe in the country’s unity that is why we have Sherkin Fulani of Lagos and chairman, Association of Fulani Chiefs, South West His Highest Dr Abubakar Bambado ll and Eze Igbo South West is also here. We have really culture and we are promoting unity of this nation

Earlier, hundreds of women of Owu were empowered with sewing machines, hair dressers equipment, grinding machine, ten thousand recharge and umbrella among others.
