During the Italian GP, in Monza, Mercedes announced the renewal of Lewis Hamilton until the end of 2025.

Thus, this agreement will allow the Briton to continue in Formula 1 beyond 40 years old.

Although it does not seem that it will be his last contract in Formula 1, the seven-time world champion has spoken about his retirement plans.

Last year he joked with Sebastian Vettel when he retired, saying that successful drivers who leave Formula 1 “always come back”, the most recent example being that of Fernando Alonso.

After the first months away from the tracks, rumors about the return of four-time world champion Vettel have entered the scene and the former driver himself has not ruled out the possibility of trying to return to the grid one day.

Lewis Hamilton’s retirement plans
However, as far as Hamilton is concerned, a return does not seem to be among his plans. The driver has the firm idea that, once he decides to cut the relationship with Formula 1, there will be no turning back.

“That won’t happen to me,” the seven-time world champion said in an interview with Blick.

“When the chapter ends, that’s when it ends.

“I can’t imagine standing in the paddock or in the garage without getting into a car.”

Hamilton on a possible eighth F1 title
An eighth title could represent a natural stopping point for Hamilton’s career. If he manages to achieve that milestone he would become the most successful driver in the history of the competition, ahead of Michael Schumacher, with whom he so far shares the record.

“I never said the eighth title would be a stopping sign for me, but I’ll only know when I get there,” he added.

“You can hardly achieve the big goals in Formula 1 without a great car. Nobody can.”

Getting to an eighth title is complicated because it depends not only on him but also on the car he has in his hands.

In addition, Red Bull’s current dominance, which is not known when it will end, makes achieving that milestone rather too idyllic an idea, however you never know.

The idea of starting a family will have to wait for Hamilton

All in all, Hamilton remains 100 percent focused on racing. The seven-time world champion has expressed a desire to have children, however it seems that it is still an idea of the future for him.

“Not at the moment, I don’t have time for that,” he said on having kids.

“I enjoy being an uncle! I have not yet decided to take that big step.

“I still have goals with the race car and everything has to be put on the back burner. I want to do my job 100 percent.

“Of course, you have to find the necessary balance with your private life and make concessions. But, thankfully that day hasn’t come yet.”
