The great golfer Lilia Vu is proving to be once again as she won the tournament with a final round score of 67, defeating home favorite Charley Hull. She has now won her second Major title of the year with her victory at the AIG Women’s Open.
As a result of her victory, she will also overtake Nelly Korda and become the world’s number one. It came as a slight surprise to Vu when she learned she was No. 1. No one expected, not even her, at the beginning of this year that it would be possible to achieve this kind of success.“Being the best in the world, that’s just crazy to me,” Vu said as quoted by golfmonthly.com “Just thinking about the struggle I had this year and just to come out with that has been – it’s just incredible.
It’s just been a crazy year for me, just doing pretty well at the beginning of the season and just hit a lull in the middle, just struggling.”
Lilia Vu and her confidence
After the US Open, Vu lost her confidence and did not expect that she would be anywhere near such a great shape.
Nevertheless, Vu showed that she never gives up, and that she has faith.“I was still just getting out the scar tissue from the U.S. Open and just playing so horribly there, and just not feeling like myself. I thought the Chevron and winning in Honda and Thailand, that was going to be it for me for my career”.
During 2019 and her rookie season, Vu considered quitting golf and devoting herself to other things. However, her mother was a huge support and did not allow such a thing.“I went back down to Symetra Tour and I couldn’t even contend there,” she said. “I was almost dead last at every event.
I wanted to put the clubs away and maybe do something else, but my mom, she always told me I was good enough have to compete out here and be the best. She’s really my rock and the reason why I’m here”.
