The May Day celebration would have been turned to free for all if not for quick security intervention which stopped what would have result to fraca between Nigeria Union of Teachers and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools.

The fraca occured when members of NUT engaged members of ASUSS in hot supremacy battle over who would lead the teaching profession at the Workers’ Day rally held in Osogbo, the state capital. Suspected members of NUT suddenly destroyed ASUSS banners and injured three members of ASUSS.

It was learnt that members of ASUSS instead of engaging in reprisal attack, toll the path of peace. The attack would have been escalated but security intervention quized the tension.

Speaking on the attack, the state chairman of ASUSS, comrade Olusegun Adediran described the attack on his members as barbaric and inhuman, saying it is a disgrace to the teaching profession.

He said, the attack is needless because ASUSS is an independent union and has nothing to do with NUT, adding that NUT has shown the world the type of members it has in the union, moral and training it is transferring to the younger ones.

“NUT has today descended so low by exposing itself to the world. They have been exposed by their activities today. They are jittery of ASUSS popularity in the state which has been given them sleepless night.

“Three of my members were injured and our banners destroyed by NUT thugs. Those who attacked my members were not real teachers but NUT thugs. We are calling security agents and Osun State government to investigate the attack and brought the perpetrators to book.

“The perpetrators should not go free but face the music of the law and serve as deterrent to others”, Adediran declared.
