A medical practitioner from the department of surgery in UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Oyelami Naheem has charged Nigerian women to avoid consumption of alcohol and smoking to save themselves from a life-threatening disease called breast cancer.
Dr. Naheem gave the charge while counseling females on health issues on Thursday, in Osogbo, Osun state capital.
Speaking on measures in preventing breast cancer, he urged them to always examine their breasts monthly seven days after their menstrual cycle.
Dr. Naheem also urged them to consult the medical practitioner whenever they observed strange in their breasts.
He said that the breast cancer can only be prevented in 30 percent by reducing the taking of alcohol drinks, red meat, and weight control.
He, however, stated that the breast cancer can be cured when treated as early as it is discovered.
According to him, “Breast cancer has several symptoms, but the first noticeable symptom is usually a lump or area of thickened breast tissue.
“Most breast lumps are not cancerous, but it’s always best to have them checked by a doctor.
“If you notice any of these symptoms:
a change in the size, outline or shape of one or both breasts discharge from either of your nipples, which may be streaked with blood.” he said
