Currently vying for the $9 million prize purse at the Genesis Scottish Open, Brian Harman is tied for the fourth spot with Tom Fleetwood. Harman is eying the third PGA win of his career. He joined the PGA Tour in 2012. The first win he claimed came at the John Deere Classic in 2014, and the second win came in 2017 at the Wells Fargo Championship.
Other than that he has also won the Manor Classic at the eGolf Professional Tour wins. Harman has also tried his luck at the major championships, where he has come close to winning a couple of times. In 2017, he finished T2 in the US Open and last year he made it to T6 at The Open Championship. Besides these Harman has maintained his position in the top 100 golfers in the world for many years now. And supporting Harman through this incredible journey is his long-time partner and wife who has stood by his side for more than a decade now.
Who is Brian Harman’s decade-old wife?
Harman is married to Kelly Van Slyke and they live in Sea Island, Georgia. Van Slyke was born in Syracuse, New York, and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from SUNY Genesco (State University of New York) in 2007. Kelly earlier used to work as a Pilates Instructor at Pilates Loft. Although she left that job, she still practices Pilates. She now works as a radiation therapist at the UC San Diego Radiation Oncology Centre. Kelly is the biggest fan of her husband and her quirky Twitter bio is proof which says: “President of the Brian Harman Fan Club, Traveler, Music Lover, Pilates Enthusiast and Radiation Therapist.”
They got engaged in 2014 and Harman came up with a quirky plan for the big proposal. He hid the ring in the inside pocket of her new pants where Kelly found it. About the funny proposal, Harman said: “I videotaped the whole thing, her trying on the pants and finding the ring. It was awesome.” Harman is camera shy and doesn’t post many pics on his Instagram account. However, he shared a few nuggets with his fans during the early days of his romance. Let’s take a look.
The couple has kept their relationship private and away from the media. However once in a while, they gave fans glimpses of their personal lives.
December wedding and now a family of five
The couple got in married in December 2014 after dating for a few years. Although the couple were planning on getting married in November but had to postpone the plans due to a football match. In November there was a big American football match between Georgia and Auburn that year and Harman and Kelly were worried that the majority of their guest would be attending the match instead. Harman tells Golf Week, “I told her people won’t come to our wedding. If you want all the people that we like to come don’t do it on a Georgia football weekend.” And the date they ended up opting for was unique 12/13/14. About it, the golfer said: “The date just turned out goofy like that.”
In 2016, the couple announced the arrival of their first child, a daughter Copper Marie Harman born in June. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, Brian shared a cute pic of Kelly and their daughter with a special note.
In 2019, they welcomed a son, Walter, and last year they made another addition to the family in September and had their third child, Jack who is 11 months now. Kelly was seen holding him during the Masters this year at the Augusta National Golf Club while she was there to cheer on Harman.
Harman had said some sweet things about his family at the event. “We had two young children before Jack, so I know what it’s like having small kids. I have an incredible wife, and she makes it to where I can go out and focus on my golf. That’s the way our family is. They travel when they can, and I have them out as much as I can, but sometimes daddy has to go to work, and that’s just the way it is.” Family is Harman’s priority and he and Kelly have always shown how much they value each other.
