Nigerian troops have attacked and killed scores of bandits in Gwashi, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, and in some forests in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, recovering many rustled cattle.
It was gathered that the bandits’ den in Gando forest was destroyed and scores of bandits killed in the military operation.
It was gathered that the community members trooped out in celebration over the victory of the military operatives as they returned after gun battles with the bandits.
Recalled that few days ago, bandits from this area demanded a huge sum of N34 million as levies from four communities in Kairu district under Bukkuyum Local Government Area, with a threat to unleash brutal attacks should any of the communities fail to comply.
Reacting to the victory of the troops, a villager from Kairu community, Abdulahi Yahaya Kairu said that the military exhibited professionalism in the process.
He said they have been under serious threat for years as the bandits continued to extort money from them at will.
Kairu appealed to both the Federal and the State governments to allow the troops to remain in the axis as the bandits may likely return if the military operatives are no longer there.
“In fact, the military operatives have saved us from these notorious bandits who have formed their own government in the axis,” he added.
Recalled that earlier in January, 2022, the bandits attacked four villages in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of the State, killing over 58 villagers.
