In an effort to end violence against Women and Girls child in 2030, the Network of Non-governmental Organizations in Osun State (NETNOS) in collaboration with National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), have took campaign to schools, religious center and market places in state.
The group visited Tender Love Secondary School, Good Tidings Nursery & Primary School, Onward, Osogbo and Good Tidings Standard College to sensitize the students on how to curb sexual abuses and violence in the society.
The NGO also trained the students on protective strategies and reporting skills in averting sexual harassment when in danger.
Speaking, the president of NETNOS, Comrade Michael Olusesi Ebofin said the group embarked on the sensitization on
violence against Women and Girls child in commemoration of the 2022 United Nations 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence In Osun State.
Ebofin said further that the day is set aside for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls, which this year’s commemoration awakening non-state actors and other human/women rights organizations to constructively engage the government and relevant stakeholders to curb sexual-related abuses in the world.
According to him, “The event which is an international campaign is always commemorated from 25th November to 10th December every year since it started at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991.
“The United Nations Secretary-General calls for global actions to increase awareness galvanize advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations To End Violence against Women and Girls by 2030.”
The group members and the NAPTIP team converged at Oke-fia for a roadshow as part of an effort to sensitize the general public to eliminate violence against women and girls.
The NGO in their numbers held placards with different descriptions; Say No To Rape; Stop Gender-Based Violence Against Women and Girls; Rapists Must Be Prosecuted; Stop Female Genital Mutilation of Girls; Speak Out; Report Rape Cases Immediately; Stop Sexual Exploitation among others.
The exercise lasted for an hour before it was later terminated at Akindeko Market, Osogbo.
