NGO charges youths to embrace entrepreneurship to bridge  unemployment gap

In an effort to reduce unemployment in Nigeria, a nongovernmental organization, Osogbo Living Spring Lions Club tasked Youths of the country to embrace entrepreneurship and make themselves productive in their society.

The NGO said the only solution to close the gap of unemployment rate in the country is for the educated youths to make themselves a problem solver through entrepreneurship.

The NGO further explained that starting a small scale business through skill acquisition will also contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The humanitarian organization made this disclosure on Saturday at Leisure Spring Hotel, Osogbo during a Seminar Youth Empowerment, Leadership Development and Literacy Talk show.

Speaking during her presentation , Lion Ande Bose who spoke on empowerment and its benefits charged youths to acquire a means of livelihood or skills in order to enable themselves to live a useful life.

She noted that self reliance will eradicate poverty, improve standard of education that leads to social improvement of the country.

“When a youth is equipped with essential skills, he or she can utilize them to feed, assist others and even invest for future use aiding the nation economically” she said.

In her own presentation, the Deputy Registrar of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Lion Grace Adeniran encouraged the youths to start a small scale business which they have better knowledge with merger amount of fund in their disposal.
Explaining how fund can be raised to start a small scale business, Lion Adeniran said personal savings,financial support from family and friends are the best way to raise money.

She also implored them to conduct a feasibility study on their environment before embarking on implementation of any business of their choice.

Speaking on leadership development and literacy , the General Director of Youths Entrepreneur Development and Innovation Society ,YEDIS, Mr. Rafiu Akinpelu stressed that any educated youth who graduated from higher institution and can not apply the knowledge acquired in school to get something doing for himself remain an illiterate .

Akinpelu noted that it is uselessness and wasteful of time for a graduate to complain that he has no job while other people without formal education are doing well in their respective work.

He urged the youths to discover their God gifted talent and apply it for their economical advantage saying everyone is born with a talent.

“Leadership skill is not something you are born with rather achieved through continuous learning by interacting with different people at all level.”

The YEDIS boss maintained that only a person with good leadership skill can become a successful entrepreneur.

Highlighting the skill needed, he said patience, use of democratic, autocratic and laissez-faire are the mode a potential leader must master while dealing with different people.
