NGO distributes face masks to Osun traders

No fewer than two hundred market men and women of Oluode Market, Osogbo have benefited from face masks distribution by a Non- governmental organization under the Lions Club International, Osogbo Living Spring Leo Club in conjunction with Osun New Era.

The distribution which was done on Thursday by the two clubs, according to their presidents, Leo Opeyemi AbdulSalam and Leo Olawale Sodiq Olakunle said the exercise was part of their NGO humanitarian service to compliment efforts of the Osun State Government in combating the spread of COVID-19.

Recall Governor Gboyega Oyetola during the time of easing the lockdown in the state made it a composary for market men and women including their customers to make use of face mask during activities of buying and selling.

The duo who explained importance of the use of face mask said it will serve as protection against the contraction of COVID-19 saying the virus is now an airborne.

Speaking on coronavirus, they stressed that the virus has come to stay, however, urged the market men and women to take responsibility of protecting themselves by making use of the face mask regularly while engaging in their business activities.

The Iyaloja of Olu-Ode Market, Mrs. Saodatu Olatunde who spoke on behalf of the market men and women appreciated the kind gesture extended to them by members of the NGO.

She said the face mask distribution was prompt as the time needed by the market men and women urging them to utilize it for its purpose.

One of the market women who identified herself as Iya Malik who could not hide her delight told our correspondent that the NGO deserved commendation.

“We are very glad for this distribution , we pray that God reward members of this NGO abundantly with many blessings” she said.

Iya Malik further appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, NGOs and political office holders to emulate the selfless service of the NGO saying the world will continue to be a better place for everyone when we show care to the less privileged .
