NGO Donates Food Stuff To Indigents In Plateau Communities

A Plateau based non-governmental organisation, Saphira Global Centre for Social Development, has donated food stuff to selected vulnerable households in the state in its 2021 edition of the Annual End of Year Food Drive.

The elaborate event held in Jos, Plateau State capital saw 50 households from different local government areas benefitting from the first and second batches of the project.

According to the Executive Director of the Centre, Ms. Yil Fomsul Gonsum, other selected beneficiaries would be reached via door to door delivery as the Centre was said to be COVID-19 protocol compliance.

Among items distributed were Rice, Cooking oil, Maggi, Milo, and Richfill. Others were Salt, Corn Flakes and Detergents among other.

The annual end of year food drive was supported through crowdfunding with donations from corporate organisations including UAC subsidiary, Grand Cereals, and NASCO Foods. Other supporters according to the Executive Director, were kind spirited members of the public including friends and families.

While addressing journalists, Ms. Gonsum said that the aim and objective of the Centre was to reach out to vulnerable groups, widows, orphans, internally displaced person’s (IDPs), and other person’s that were in need of urgent support.

She lamented the hard economic reality in the country noting that the Centre was able to Garner resources through supports from corporate organisations and spirited individuals.

She said, “I always reach out to the poor and the needy. I cook in my house and feed people who have nothing to eat.

“My aim is to put smiles on faces of the people and my goal is to help those who can not help me back.”

In their separate interviews, beneficiaries, Rebecca Jacob and Christiana Dalop from Langtang and Riyom LGA of Plateau state respectively, thanked the founder of Saphira Global Centre, for wiping the tears of the widows and vulnerable groups. They prayed that God would open more doors of opportunity for the Centre to empower more widows and the vulnerable groups.

They called on the government to come to the rescue of the widows and vulnerable persons in the state and by extension, Nigeria, as they can hardly feed their children and pay their school fees because of the current economic hardship.

“We are calling on the Government at all levels to assist an organization like Saphira Global Centre that is passionate about the welfare of widows and vulnerable persons in every community in Plateau state, and by extension the country as a whole”.

This, they said will enable the organisation to reach out to more vulnerable persons in various communities in the state in particular and the country at large.
