The Chief of Army staff, LT Tukur Yusuf Buratai has said that Nigerian Army has played a vital role in infrastructural and economic development across the country since the end of civil war.
Buratai made the disclosure at the official commissioning of historical Kuta-Ikoyi- Ede Osun bridge and Olowu of Kuta new palace hall on Monday, in Ayedire local government area of Osun State.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting all Nigerian Army programs which he said has assisted them the completion of the bridge for the use of the populace.
According to him, “Nigerian Army engineer institution is one that has played very important role in infrastructural and economic development across the country.
“After the civil war all the roads that were constructed in those days by Nigerian Army engineers are professional, expert and delivered quality result at a very cheap cost.
Commencing Osun former governor who is now the Minister for Interior, Buratai said “We must give credit to the effort of the past administration that they made by providing construction material in other to construct the bridge.
Speaking, Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola charged the communities to use the advantage of the new construction bridge for their economic activities.
Governor Oyetola said the roads and bridge is crucial for social economic and development of the people
He said, On our part we have embarked on many roads across the three senatorial district in the state to improve the social economic lives of the people.
Oyetola said the palace that commissioned is the headquarters of the community which he said it communicate essence of the image of the community to the world.
He added that the monarch has been a strong pillar in supporting the government efforts by ensuring that peace is sustained in his domain.
Eulogizing the Chief of Army Staff, Governor Oyetola said Buratai as a gentleman , gallant soldier has shown the character of Omoluabi by donating bridge to the people of Kuta.
Oyetola further stressed that General Buratai has always assist Osun with security saying he has given maximum support to the state’s security initiative under his administration.
The highly elated monarch, Oba Hammed Adekunle Oyelude Makama Tegbosun III appreciated the Nigerian Army for the construction of bridge which he noted took the three communities over one hundred years to achieved the bridge, saying the people of Ede, Ikoyi and Kuta will forever remember the bridge builder.
“General Yusuf Buratai is that angel dispersed from heaven God used to free our community from being a root that lead to nowhere.
“I thank President Muhammadu Buhari for having confidence on General Buratai led Nigerian Army.
“When I became Olowu of Kuta few years ago I made a covenant with God and my ancestors to use every contact and connections at my hand to advance development in Kuta.
“It was the spirit behind the construction of Olowu palace which we are commissioning today, that same spirit took me to sought help from Gen. Buratai for the construction of Osun bridge, the monarch added.
He , however, implored citizens to continue their support for Nigeria armed forces.
