Muhammad Sabiu, Kaduna

The church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry, Sabon Tasha in Kaduna State, has donated hundreds of bags of assorted grains to  poor and underprivileged members of the society ahead of the 30-day Ramadan fasting billed to start tomorrow (Thursday) across the globe.

Distributing the items at Kano road central mosque  Kaduna on Wednesday, the General Overseer of the church Pastor Yohanna Buru, said the gesture became necessary as the holy month(Ramadan) is around,  “but the high cost of living amidst scarcity of naira notes prompted the church to assist the vulnerable ones amongst us.

While stressing that the church cannot forget the annual contributions of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani for sharing bags of rice, cash and new clothes to the church during Christmas and easter celebrations, he said the followers of the two religions must continue to be their brothers keepers.

According to him, last year, the church donated bags of rice, maize, and other food items to vulnerable Muslims in over 5 states in the country to enable them to have something when breaking their fast.

“This year, we have added mats and plastic kettles so they could stay at home and pray to God to end the rising problems of insecurity, high inflation, and other problems bedeviling the peace and stability in the country.

“We are targeting over 1,000 poor Muslims as we bought 50 bags of maize and millets to share in the scheme’s first phase.”

The clergy noted that the gesture was a tool for strengthening relationships, peaceful co-existence, and religious tolerance among the faiths to attain peaceful and harmonious coexistence.

While stressing adhering to the teachings of the holy books, the Bible and Qur’an, the Christian clergy urged the Muslim faithful to intensify prayers throughout the Holy month of Ramadan

He also appealed to the well-to-do individuals In society to indulge in humanitarian services to ease the hardships of vulnerable persons.

Pastor Yohanna equally called on traders to stop taking advantage of the holy month of Ramadan by tripling food items’ prices, adding, “We are planning to visit markets to encourage them to reduce their prices.

Receiving the food items at Kano road central mosque, one of the leaders, Mallam Hassan Lawal Mohammed (sarkin kutaren kaduna) expressed happiness over the kind gesture by the Church.

He said, ” for the past 10 years, this church has been giving us food items and grains during Ramadan. Only God can reward them.
