Human rights activist and foremost Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has disclosed that the Federal government has to pay money to the victims of the flood in Nigeria.
He noted that it is the duty of the government to protect lives and properties.
According to Falana, all the victims of the recent floods that recked havoc on different communities across states of Nigeria, the government must pay them. Every Nigerian, everybody in this country is entitled to the protection of life and property.
Falana, who is the former president and BoT chairman of the Committee For The Defence Of Human Rights (CDHR) stated this at 2022 Annual general Conference, (AGC) of the Human Right organization yesterday, in Lagos State.
He maintained that Six hundred and twelve (612) people have been killed by flood, saying Nigeria didn’t record
the high number of death during Covid-19 because the government mobilized resources to cushion the effect.
He stressed that the human rights organization is ready to drag the federal government over failure to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.
Falana charged the 28 state branches of the CDHR that it is time to show the government that every life matters in Nigeria.
He, however, assured the members of the organization that he will file suit against the government for the victims of the floods.
Falana said, “Six hundred and twelve (612) people have been killed by the flood.
“But as I’ve said publicly, it’s a class matter, most of those who have died due to flooding are the flotsam and jetsam of the society, poor people.
“But when it was COVID because any of them could die, they mobilize resources all over the country to build emergency hospitals.” he added.
