Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Nigerian Army has described as sad and unfortunate, the comments made by a renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, that security personnel are colluding with bandits. Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu described the accusation as a calculated attempt to denigrate the Nigerian military and undermine the sacrifices of the troops.

2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned three directors and some other officials of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS) over allegations of N4.5 billion fraud. EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this yesterday.

3. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged a political pressure group, the Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF), to give him three weeks to make consultations on the 2023 presidency. The governor stated this, on Wednesday, when he was presented with the letter of demand to declare interest in the presidency.

4. The Senate on Wednesday passed the 2021 Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N895, 842, 465, 917 for second reading. Senate President Ahmad Lawan, after the budget passed second reading, referred it to the Senate Committee on Appropriations, to report back on Tuesday.

5. Ten members of the same family were said to have died in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, after consuming a local herb mixture purported to be the cure for foot infection. The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident in a statement, yesterday, in Ilorin.

6. The Presidency has disowned ongoing attempts at the National Assembly to amend the Nigerian Press Council (NPC) Act and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Act, a move media stakeholders have described as an attempt to muzzle the press. President Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the initiative is a FG thing that only the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, can address.

7. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has said the reported roof leakage at the National Assembly has vindicated its request for the approval of N37 billion for the renovation of the complex. Lawan stated this in his remarks on two Points of Order raised by Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Sen. Sabi Abdullahi, during plenary, yesterday.

8. Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Charles Soludo has won the ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

9. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha has said that the Federal Government would soon take a decision to recall civil servants working from home back to work. He made the disclosure in Abuja on Wednesday.

10. The Oyo State government on Wednesday said it has invited the traditional worshipers in the State to invoke spiritual powers to fight the recent surge in insecurity. The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, said this after a meeting with the traditional worshipers at his ministry on “Community and Public Enlightenment on Security and Peaceful Coexistence”.
