NSCDC Embarks On Psychological Assessment For Arms Bearing Personnel In Osun

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command, Osogbo has on Tuesday commenced forensic psychological assessment for the arms bearing personnel with a view to ascertaining the level of their emotional and psychological status so as to forestall any unprofessional act of misuse of firearms that may emanate from any uncontrolled emotional outburst.

The Osun State Commandant, Emmanuel Ocheja , who declared the event open and unveiled the psychological test materials urged the participants to pay rapt attention to details regarding the smooth conduct of the examination.

Commandant Emmanuel also reiterated the efforts and commitments of the Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, repositioning the Corps towards the attainment of an enviable position among the comity of security outfits.

The Head of forensic and Behavioural Unit, Osun Command, Stephen Oyebode also explained in his remark, the primary essence of the assessment and that necessary templates have been put in place by the Unit to offer psychotherapy and psycho social intervention to Officers who may need such assistance. He further stated that, the exercise is aimed at selecting the best capable hands who can be entrusted with arms.

The Head of the Forensic and Behavioural Unit NSCDC, National Headquarters Abuja, Dr Tersoo Shaapera who was represented by Dr Olawale Folarin, a clinical psychologist expressed the imperative of the exercise and the need to uphold the tenets of rule of engagement through the enhancement of the nitty-gritty of emotional Intelligence.

He delivered series of lectures in order to keep the Officers abreast of the new methodologies involving the bearing of arms.

Daniel Adigun, the command spokesman said the evaluation will takes place in batches so as to foster better opportunity for one on one interview wuth the seasoned experts on ground.

Adigun further stared that it is indeed a new era in the annals of NSCDC history as the Corps will not tolerate any excuse under the guise of accidental discharge.

“There is nothing as accidental discharge as the process of firing a bullet entails certain steps to be followed” he said.
