The Chief Medical Director of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Professor John Okeniyi, has hosted Old Students’ Association of Christian Missionary Society (CMS) Grammar School, Lagos.

Okeniyi who played host to the Old CMS Grammar School at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), on Friday in Ile-Ife, described the association as one of the best Old Students’ Association doing well in the country.

The chairman of the Association, Mr Babajide Adeagbo, 1984 set, said the association always assessed performance of their members whenever they were appointed to offices by government to ensure that they keep the ethical standard of the school.

Adeagbo added that after a while, they visited them to commend and support those that are performing well and otherwise, admonished those that performed below standard readjust.

He noted that the CMD’s performance since his assumption of office has been credible, stressing that they are here to applaud him and charge him to do more.

In his remarks, Prof Okeniyi explained that he was overwhelmed for receiving his August visitors for meeting again after some decades.

He added that OAUTHC has been a wonderful institution that has been well known by all Nigerians, saying that the hospital will clock 50 years this year.

The CMD noted that he seated on legacy that he’s too little to fill, a Professor and alumnus of the University and hold the position dearly.

He emphasised that the hospital was in crisis when he was appointed as CMD after his successor csused industrial unrest through illegal employment which took time to resolve.

According to him, the system has been sanitised, we’ve had two promotion examinations, first one, about 400 staff, and 774 staff were also promoted by merit on computer based.

He reaffirmed that staff didn’t need to lobby anybody, neither to lubricate anything, and they can’t be cheated, stating that 100 junior staff have been promoted.

“So, we have doing well in terms of staff welfare and promotion, I think we are doing excellently well, we are trying to redeploy resources.

“Ile-Ife has no fire service for example. We are currently training 40 people to be able to address the needs of the people because prevention is better than cure.

“In terms of our mandate, we are to provide excellent services and we are doing well in surgeries like open heart surgery, complex congenital heat diseases.

“This is helping Nigeria to avert capital at the local level instead of travelling to India, Egypt and Israel among other countries”, he stated.

According to him, the hospital is on third batch of training staff on cardio thoracic, we are investing on manpower development and research, oncology, child development.

Okeniyi said, that they have four training schools such as Nursing, Community health, records and Radiographers.

“We are moving from analog to digital age, we have started deployment of our electronic health records and this year we’ll digitalise administration of this hospital.

“Power has been our major problems, we witnessed how power adversely affected Ibadan UCH for nine-month. But we are looking forward for way out, presently we are rationalising using solar power.

“We have 19 accreditation visit for all our programmes, hoping to get good results, all the previous 18, we have had excellent results. All our programmes here are fully accredited.

“We saw the amenity in Ilesa Wesley Guild that we opened last week, we have new urology building here and we have massive donations”, he stated.
