Some lecturers of Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) branch that comprises of Congress of University Academics (CONUA), has inaugurated new nine leaders that will control the affairs of the union.
This is as the tenure of those in charge led by Dr Niyi Sunmonu ended.
Dr Folasade Hunsu, a doctor of Literature-in-English, took over from Sunmonu, who had served since 2018 till date.
Also on the executive members are Prof. Olabisi Ayodele as Vice-Chairperson, Dr Hammed Adefeso as Secretary and Assistant Secretary Prof. J.B. Oyedele as Assistant Secretary.
Other excos includes: Dr A.V. Adeyemo, treasurer, Dr Kayode Sanusi bagged Financial Secretary, Dr Dada Fadeju would be in charge of Welfare.
While Dr Olusegun Adebowale would manage Investment Officer and Dr. A. Akinsulore became the Union’s Internal Auditor.
The inauguration was attended by lecturers of the Institution only and the Chairman, Electoral Committee, Prof David Ogungbile sworn them in at Auditorium 2, Humanities Block of the Campus.
Ogungbile congratulated the new exco, charged them to uphold the pillar of the union firmly and ready to take the union to his promised Land.
In her acceptance speech, Dr Folasade Hunsu, lauded the members of the union for given them the opportunity to serve the them.
Hunsu promised that the union leaders would prioritise the welfare condition of the members, while their promotion and improvement on working condition would not be left behind.
She stressed further that they will ensure that University system would runs as it should be without any delay.
According to her, the union leadership would admonished the University Authorities to follow the committee based system when the decision and policies of the University would passed through committees and would be decided by the committees not by individuals.
The Spokesperson said that the union would see that the appointment into position in the University are done based by merit and not on patronage.
“And we’ll promote voices as nation builders, for unionism is not about distrupting academic session, but by contributing quota to the smoothness of running the calendar without any hitches.
“And this can be done by organising workshops, symposium, Seminar s where ideas will be exchanging for the benefit of all and sundry.
“And the product of the meeting would be communicated to the government and the public in which we believe would go a long way as the idea would be relevant and useful to the government”. She explained.
Hunsu called on members to support the new elected leaders as they cooperated with the ongoing exco,for she has been the members from inception and know that the members are strong and focus.
“We cannot do it alone, for a tree cannot make a forest, but when all hands are on deck, the achievement is sure”. She assured.
