Dignitaries from across the nation on Thursday, thronged the Iperu hometown of Governor Dapo Abiodun to join him in bidding his late father, Pa Emmanuel Abiodun, farewell.

DAILY POST recalls that the governor’s father passed away on August 2 at 89.

A funeral and thanksgiving service held at St. James Anglican Church, Iperu-Remo, had in attendance, former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; former Governor Ibikunle Amosun; Secretary to the Government of Federation, Boss Mustapha; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila: the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and the former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

The event was also attended by Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Abdul-Rahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara) and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi).

Former Governor Olusegun Osoba; former Governor Gbenga Daniel; the Acting National Leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo; Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele and many others were present at the funeral.

Speaking, Vice President Osinbajo delivered the message of President Muhammadu Buhari to the governor and the entire Abiodun family, noting that the governor’s father enjoyed the grace of God.

Osinbajo said the late retired teacher did not take the grace of God for granted, saying that he rather he gave back to his community by becoming a teacher of teachers.

Delivering his sermon, the Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos and Diocesan Bishop of Remo, Most Rev. Dr. Olusina Fape, enjoined politicians to use their positions to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.

Fape reminded them that “The position we hold in life is given to us by God to wipe out tears on the faces of our neighbours.”

Gov Abiodun appreciated dignitaries at the funeral service, saying he would continue to hold on tightly to the morals and values inculcated in him by his father while alive.

Others at the event included the Chairman of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd), and the President, African Development Bank, Akinwunmi Adesina among others.
