The leadership of the Great Ife Alumni Association of the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Monday expressed shock over the death of the Publicity Secretary, Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, late Yinka Odumakin.

The Afenifere’s spokesman died in the early hours of last Saturday at the Intensive Care Unit, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos State.

The Worldwide President of the Association, Engr. Wale Olaleye (FNSE) in a statement issued by the Association’s National Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Ajibola Falode, described the deceased as a worthy ambassador, democrat, nationalist and patriotic Nigerian whose entire life was dedicated to serve God and humanity.

He said the death of the pro-democracy and detribalised Nigerian would in no doubt creates a vacuum in the nation’s political and democratic development, saying Nigeria, Africa and entire world had lost a courageous and dogged socioeconomic, political and democratic crusader.

“The late Yinka Odumakin, a 1989 graduate of English at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife would be sorely missed by the Great Ife Alumni Association and the Nation at large.

“Late Yinka Odumakin, who was a PRO of the Students’ Union in his University days was a great activist and a nationalist.

“The Worldwide President, Engr. Wale Olaleye (FNSE) took solace in the fact that Yinka lived a good life of active and selfless service to the Country, Nigeria.

“I prayed that God in His infinite mercies would grant the family, the Alumni Association and friends he left behind the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he added
