THE Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has congratulated former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, on his election victory, urging the president-elect to be equitable and accountable in his administration.
The council, headed by the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, also felicitated the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on his re-election.
In a statement by its secretary-general, Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde, the OMC reminded Tinubu of the peculiarities of the Nigerian state, imploring him to shun all tendencies that could undermine the peace, unity and progress of the country.
The council noted that the president-elect will be taking the mantle of Nigeria’s leadership at a time the country is facing multiple challenges that require strong political will and sincerity of purpose to overcome.
In a separate statement to congratulate Abiodun, the OMC described the Ogun State governor’s victory as a testimony to his good works n the last 45 months.
It said: “It is in this regard that Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) is imploring Your Excellency to do a down-to-earth evaluation of the projects and programmes carried out under the ‘ISEYA’ mantra during your first term in office with a view to mapping out strategies that will facilitate increased and improved performance.
“As an Islam-loving governor, it is our expectation that Your Excellency will continue to be fair, just and equitable in the discharge of the affairs of the state.
“Specifically, we implore Your Excellency to accord the Muslims in the state their rights and privileges, including fair representation in the State Executive Council, statutory commissions and boards, free practice of our faith within the ambit of the law, including formalising the approval of the use of hijab in schools and public establishments.”
