…as political parties signed peace accord with State Command

As the Osun July 17 governorship approaches , the state Police command has called on all political parties to shun all forms of violence capable of throwing the state into state of anarchy.

Speaking at a gathering with representatives of political party on Thursday at the Osun Police Command, CP, Olawale Olokode urged political actors to shun taking law into their hands and conduct themselves peaceful.

He noted that the command under his watch will always do the right thing if properly briefed, also assured all political parties of a level playing ground before, during and after the election.

According to the CP “All processions, primaries, consultation visits and rallies must be peaceful, in accordance with the electoral act and respect the right and safety of other people.

Sounding the note of warning, CP Olokode said “the idea of unnecessary blocking of roads during campaigns, rallies and processions without due process, attacking innocent citizens unjustly, and assaulting security men on duty will not be tolerated.

“Anyone, irrespective of his status, who breaches public peace, would be punished according to the law.

“It very important to state that political activities, party primaries, consultation visits, campaigns and other are legal so far they are within the confine of the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I therefore wish to enjoin all political parties and groups to play the game by the rules and allow themselves and their activities be guided by the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“I advise politicians and other members of the public who may be supporting political parties to always formally inform the command before ernbarking on processions, assemblies, campaigns or rallies in order to make necessary security arrangement that would prevent any breakdown of law and order.”

While speaking on the protection of lives and properties of residents of the system he said “I also want to assure the entire people of the state that the police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring security of lives and properties before, during and after th election period.

Political parties in attendance are ; The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressives Congress, APC, Labour Party, Young Political Party, YPP, Action Democratic Party, ADP, and Action Democratic Congress, ADC.

Representatives of each political parties, however, signed a peace accord with the Osun State Police Command.
