Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, a chieftain and leader contender for the APC gubernatorial ticket, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has harped on unity within the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the recent divisions in the state ruling party, PDP, has clearly shown the umbrella has lost directions in both national and state politics, calling on the APC to harmonize their interest and present him as a formidable candidate to wrestle power from the current accidental Governor of Osun State.

Ogunbiyi made the disclosure last weekend through his campaign team during their consultation visit to APC leaders in Iwo, the seat of Osun West Senatorial District.

The team leaders, Alhaji Najeem Raimi and Barrister Femi Kehinde, appealed to the party leaders for a convincing campaign to politically position Iwoland as the true bastion of progressive governance, not only in Osun State but also in South Western States.

The team stressed the need to harmonize Iwoland interest noting that failure will make the seat elude Iwoland for the next 24 years.

The APC leaders conducted by Barrister Gbadegesin Adedeji attested to political calculations, and noted the need for a more robust harmonization.2

“Iwoland, by the merit of political commentators, has been described as the bastion of progressive governance in South West. The land, despite it wealth of human resources, has not tasted Governorship seat since inception. We have been politically marginalized”

“The golden opportunity is 2026. The ruling party in the state, PDP, has failed and it is clearly shown in the division and polarization that has engulfed the party. The centre could no longer hold”

“Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi is fully prepared to lead APC to victory. A resilient business manager, he has continued to create wealth for the Nation through the establishment of many viable and well managed businesses. He is a major stakeholder of Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC- a conglomerate with nine subsidiaries and over 7,000 employees, who are gainfully employed in various value-adding sectors of the Nigerian economy”

The political movement of Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Idera De, will hold an expanded stakeholders meeting next weekend as a harness of the ongoing consultations.
