… Says economy is being revived through blockage of leakages
Governor, State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has asserted that his administration remained resolute and determined to bring prosperity to the people of the state .
He said the ongoing efforts to unlock and maximise the potentials in the key sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, mining and tourism would accelerate development in the state to an enviable height.
Oyetola stated this on Sunday, at a special Service commemorating the 29th anniversary of the creation of the state, held at St. Benedict Cathedral Church, Station Road, Osogbo.
Oyetola, who spoke through his Deputy, Benedict Alabi, said his administration has recorded tremendous achievements within the last 22 months in the saddle, by taking bold steps to further fulfill the aspirations of the state’s founding fathers.
He stressed that government in the state has been able to sustain relative peace and sociopolitical stability as necessary ingredients for sustainable development.
The governor added that the security architecture of the state has been redefined with the inauguration of Osun Security Network and Amotekun Corps board, noting that this bold step was taken to further strengthen the security of lives and property of Osun residents.
Speaking on the ongoing effort to develop the mining sector in the state as a viable alternative for revenue generation, Oyetola explained that the effort has received a boost with the support by the federal government to revive the sector, as Osun is among the three states alongside Kebbi and Zamfara to copilot the scheme.
He said, “Our administration has revived the economy with great courage of blocking all identified leakages and waste, with relentless efforts to increase IGR and fine-tune alternative sources of revenue generation in major critical sectors of Agriculture, Tourism and Mining.
“We have renewed hope among our people with improved security and functional educational system, in which the recent performances of our students in National competitions remain a convincing testimony.
“These efforts of our administration have made our state the state of interest around the globe with recent achievements in the mining sector, in line with Federal Government’s plan to revive the sector for better opportunities.
“It is incontrovertibly correct that the standard of living of our people have tremendously improved as government continues to pay salaries of workers regularly and without delay”.
Oyetola hinted that the commemoration service was to show appreciation to God and the good people of Osun, especially the spiritual fathers for their prayers, support and guidance over the last 29 years of the state creation.
In his sermon, the Lord Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, Reverend John Oyetola, who was represented by Reverend Father Kenneth Adesina, congratulated the people of the state for having someone like Governor Adegboyega Oyetola at the helms of affairs at this time, in which there is urgent necessity for proactiveness and prudence in the management of resources.
He, however, enjoined the people of Osun to continue to support the government and obey the authority as directed by God.
Present at the service were the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oyefunke Alabi, and some members of the state executive council, including the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr Lekan Badmus, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public health, Pharmacist Olasiji Olamiju.
