APC is exhibiting laziness, wanting to be spoon-fed – PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State, has raised concerns over the recent recruitment of 1,000 Amotekun Corps personnel by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Osun State government had recruited 1150 personnel into Amotekun corps to secure the state from all forms of crimes and Osun a crime free state in Nigeria.

According to Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, in a statement on Thursday, the recruitment is motivated by ulterior motives, with the majority of the new recruits being political thugs affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We are not unaware of the fact that Governor Adeleke has an ulterior motive for the recruitment of the 1,000 Amotekun Corps recently as a credible fact check has revealed that majority of them who are political thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are attached to the state political functionaries, their wives and children.”

Reacting to allegations, Oladele Olabamiji, Director of Media and Publicity for the PDP, Osun, said the Governor’s efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture should be commendable.

Olabamiji maintained that the recruitment process was transparent and merit-based.

He challenged the APC to provide evidence to support their accusations, saying “if they have any evidence to support their accusations, they should come forward.

He said, “considering recent events in the state, one cannot fault the Governor’s recruitment of additional personnel into the Amotekun Corps security outfit. Security is the primary responsibility of any responsible government. If the Governor is taking charge in this area, he should be commended for his vision.

“The increasing rate of criminality requires thorough preparations, and any government that prioritizes this is on the right track, which is what Mr. Governor is doing. The APC cannot deny that those recruited are sons and daughters or residents of Osun State who are stakeholders in their own right and expressed interest in the Amotekun security outfit.

“It’s incorrect for APC members to expect the government to come to them and force them to fill out the online form. I confirm that diligent individuals applied for the outfit and were randomly selected based on merit. Perhaps the APC is exhibiting laziness, wanting to be spoon-fed and expecting the government to beg them.

“If they have any evidence to support their accusations, they should come forward.”
