The leadership of the Osun State Chapter of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters
Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), has mourned the demise of it’s National Organizing Secretary, Sunday Alakinde in a fatal motor accident on Monday.

THESOURCE report that two persons have died in a fatal motor accident along Ilesa/Ife expressway in Osun State around 3:05am on Monday.

One of the victims, Mr Sunday Alakinde was a freelance broadcaster with Uniq FM, a private radio station in Ilesa.

The other victim, it was gathered, was a male media apprentice who boarded a saloon car that was driven by Alakinde.

The crash was said to have occurred around 3:05am on Monday while Alakinde was returning to the station for his daily popular radio programme “Ojutole”.

While the National Organising Secretary of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) and one occupant of the vehicle were said to have died on the spot, the third person was said to have sustained severe injury.

The crash was confirmed by Agnes Ogungbemi, the Public Relations Officer, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state.

Ogungbemi said that the crash happened around Rock Villa Hotel, Opposite Old Sazo oil Ilesa.

She said the accident involved a blue-coloured saloon car with registration number SMK 312 GQ and a white coloured luxury bus with number plate LND 322 XY.

Ogungbemi gave the name of the luxury bus driver as Hueffa adding that the injured victim had been rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa. She added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Wesley hospital morgue.

“The injured victim was taken to Wesley Hospital for medical treatment while the corpse deposited at the same hospital morgue.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Osun State Chapter of Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), has mourned Alakinde’s death.

According to a condolence statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary of the association, Mukhtar Ajelogbon, the news of the death of Alakinde, who was the National Organizing Secretary of the association, came to FIBAN as a rude shock.
It commiserated with the entire family of the deceased and the management of Uniq 103.1FM, Ilesa.

The statement added that “Alakinde died in a motor accident along Ilesa express way around 3 O’clock in the Morning while coming along Ijebujesa express way to resume duty at Uniq FM.

“He was a devoted Christian and committed media practitioner who contributed his quota in his lifetime, while he will be remembered for his accomplishments in various aspect of life.

“Until his death, Alakinde worked in the News and Current affairs Department of Uniq FM, and former Organizing Secretary of the Osun State FIBAN before rising to the national office. Osun FIBAN prayed that God will ease the tension of Alakinde’s grave and grant him eternal rest. Amen!”
