Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun on Wednesday swore-in the Chairman and Members of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) at the State Secretariat in Osogbo.
The commission is expected to oversee the conduct of the the local government elections that is to hold in the state later in the year as well as manage the affairs of the commission for the next four years.
The Governor noted that “the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has empowered each State Governor appoint a state electoral board to conduct local government elections.”
Oyetola therefore urged all members of the committee to always remember the oath of allegiance they have taken while carrying out their duties to the state, noting that there is so much to do within a very short period of time.
He added that his administration will give the board adequate support to ensure they organize a credible, free and fair election.
“For our local goverments. to achieve their aims, elections that’ll usher leaders into power must be conducted by people who are above board. To this end, we’ve appointed people of impeccable character & flawless antecedents in their private & public lives to serve in the Commission.”
The Governor said “I thank them for accepting to render this all-important service. I also urge them to work relentlessly to further improve the rating of Osun by conducting free, fair & credible elections that will be models in the nation.”
