The Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens (CCNC) has expressed strong reservations over the Osun State government’s decision to deploy 1,750 Imole Teachers Corps to primary and secondary schools across the state.

According to the coalition, the initiative is a “recipe for disaster” and undermines the quality of education in the state.

In a statement over the weekend signed by Comrade Oluomo Success, the group questioned the government’s priorities and commitment to quality education, citing concerns over the qualifications and training of the corps members.

The group demanded answers on how the increased allocation from the federal government has been utilized and what policies Governor Adeleke has embarked on to improve education in the state.

The group called on Governor Adeleke to reverse the deployment of Imole Corps into schools and recruit certified teachers who passed tests, urging him to be transparent about the use of the increased allocation from the federal government.

The statement read apart, “the Imole Teachers Corps, though well-intentioned, falls short of the standards required to provide quality education. Many of these corps members may not possess the necessary qualifications, training, or experience to effectively teach and inspire our students.

“We recall the numerous advertisements for teacher recruitment in Osun State, where applicants paid N5,000 each for application forms. Many of these applicants were screened, tested, and vetted, only to be left in limbo. Where are these tested and qualified teachers? Why are they not being deployed to schools? The deployment of Imole Teachers Corps raises serious questions about the government’s priorities and commitment to quality education. MR GOVERNOR SIR, WE NEED ANSWERS

“Using uncertified and untrained individuals as teachers will undoubtedly mar the educational development of Osun State. Our students deserve better. They deserve teachers who are passionate, qualified, and equipped to deliver high-quality education. The current action by the governor is not only anti-masses but also a deliberate attempt to pull down the educational development of the state.

“We call on Governor Ademola Adeleke to reconsider his decision and prioritize the recruitment of qualified and certified teachers. We urge the Commissioner of Education to advise the governor on the need for quality education and the dangers of deploying unqualified teachers to schools. The citizens of Osun State are losing faith in the governor’s ability to deliver on his electoral promises, particularly with regards to providing quality education.

“If the governor fails to reconsider his decision, the consequences will be far-reaching. The educational sector will suffer, and the state’s development will be hindered. The students of Osun State deserve better, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that they receive the quality education they deserve.

“The deployment of Imole Teachers Corps is a misguided initiative that will have far-reaching consequences for the educational development of Osun State. We call on the governor to prioritize quality education and recruit qualified and certified teachers. The citizens of Osun State deserve better, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that they receive the quality education they deserve, we are calling on all stakeholders, media house, educational Consultancy firms, the state house of assembly and other relevant Individuals in the state not to be quite on this issue because this is our future and we must guide it with all we get” he said.
