No fewer than seven Osun indigent Students received cash award today, 27th November, 2022, at the 78th posthumous birthday celebration of Engr. Mrs Comfort Ponnle, held at MicCom Golf Hotels and Resort, Ada, Boripe Local Government area of Osun State.

Gathered at Olona Hall in the hotel, venue of the celebration, were students, parents and invited guests. It was a moment of remembrance of her good gesture when she was alive, Mrs Comfort Ponnle was known for integrity and service to humanity.

According to the Chairman, Micbeth Empowerment Foundation, an NGO named after her, Mrs Yetunde Daramola said “This wonderful woman was my role model, I am not sure she realised that my love for the teaching profession was because I believed her foundation as a teacher was responsible for her self-confidence.

“My mother Olufunke was a very confident, intelligent, and excellent public speaker. Olufunke was never self-conscious when speaking in public and will always create an opportunity to address people. Olufunke through her various public engagement with people have helped mend some unusual relationships and families. We have several testimonies to support this.

“I recall a spouse of one of my father’s friends testified that she never enjoyed her marriage of more than 30years at the time, until her family developed a relationship with my parents. Olufunke ought to have taken up a profession in counselling. On many occasions when she was receiving cancer treatments, Olufunke was approached by the clinic to help counsel other patients who were unable to deal with their diagnosis. My mother always chose to see the good side of any situation. This special woman that Myself and my siblings are proud to call mother, devoted her entire life looking out for others, empowering people, and impacting on them positively.

Speaking at the event, the Keynote Speaker, Pastor (Mrs) Oluwagbemi said whatever we do while alive, people will surely remember us, and as parents, they must strive hard to give their children best education.

“We are all here today to celebrate a mother in millions. Her legacy speaks. She stood up for something. She is an educationist and a woman of virtue.”

“I want to implore us as parents to give our children quality education. As a matter of duty, we should do everything humanly possible to get our children good and sound education. We parents should be ready to take responsibility over our children.”

Four Students were given N10,000 each for participating in the contest, while the most improved student in the contest was given N25,000; the runner up collected N50,000, and the winner received a whooping sum of N100,000.

In his acceptance speech, the winner, master Adepoju Ajibola Oluwatobiloba, appreciated the foundation for the opportunity to participate in the contest. He, however, promised to make judicious use of the money for his education.

He said, “I am eternally grateful for this gesture extended to me and my family. I want to appreciate MEF foundation for this award. It is my prayer that God will continue to enrich the pocket where this money comes out from. To my fellow students, we should not relent, let’s be focused and remain committed to our goals.”

78th posthumous birthday cake was cut in remembrance of the deceased, as prayers were offered to the family she left behind.
