…Political office holder implored to emulate lawmaker gesture for education development
The lawmaker representing Ayedire state constituency in the State of Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Abidemi Gbenga Ogunkanmi, has distributed reading materials, text books and school bags to the students across his constituents.
He also empowered eight out of the 20 students that benefitted from his scholarship scheme to Government Technical College, Iwo, on graduation with veritable tools to practice in their chosen careers.
Ogunkanmi, who is the Deputy Chief Whip of the 7th Assembly in Osun, urged the beneficiaries to maximise the skills learnt during the period of vocational training to be useful members of the society.
Presenting his account of stewardship to his constituents during the event held at the Ileogbo City Hall, during the week the lawmaker said in the last two and half years of his assumption of office, he has been able to secure Federal and State pensionable employments for a number of job seekers in the local government.
Ogunkanmi hinted that his interventions so far have been from his personal pocket as state legislators are not entitled to constituency allowance, however promised to do more in facilitating dividends of democracy for his people.
The Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, noted that he has also sponsored bills in the state parliament geared towards promoting a good governance, one of which is the Osun State Legislative Management Bill, 2021.
He also added that notwithstanding his tight engagements with the scope of legislative duties, he will continue to put in concerned efforts and unrivalled passion towards the well-being of his constituents.
“In line with our agenda of bringing sunk to our people in the little way we can, I have sunk boreholes and ensured the payment of school fees of the indigents students at tertiary level, intervention on medical bills just like other pressing matters, especially during lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic when various households in Ayedire state Constituency received relief items.”
Speakers at the event including royal fathers and leaders of the nation’s ruling party in the council area appreciated and commended the lofty and futuristic contributions of Honourable Abidemi Gbenga Ogunkanmi whom they described as the most dutiful representative the constituency has produced so far.
Beneficiaries of the technical education had in the cause of the program applauded Hon. Ogunkanmi is especially for giving not only education but working tools to enable them to maximize profit from the skill set they have learned.
Some of the items distributed by Hon. Ogunkanmi were school bags, text and exercise books, carpentry and welding tools such as tape rule, saw, Hammer, iron square, smooth, chisel, tester, plum, helmet, mesh, chemical, welding machines among others.
Meanwhile, the principal of the Government Technical College, Iwo, Mrs. Aderonke Akande described the event as a development program in uplifting the education sector in Ayedire and state at large.
Mrs. Akande lauded the lawmaker’s gesture towards the development of vocational training for the students of his constituents.
According to Akande, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi has assisted the Government Technical College, Iwo to buy sewing machines for the garment department.
She implored all the political office holders to emulate the good gesture of the lawmaker for the development of education in the state.
