The Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Oyelude Makama, has emphasized the importance of preserving traditional institutions, stating that traditional ruler ceases to be the property of his family but belongs to his town the moment he is enthroned as Oba.

Speaking on the controversy surrounding the burial ceremony of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, which was conducted strictly in accordance with Islamic rites, Oba Makama attributed the root of the controversy to a disregard for tradition and culture.

At a one-day workshop organized by the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) in Osogbo, Oba Makama urged politicians to stop playing politics with traditional institutions.

The monarch noted that only a few things remain for tradition and culture lovers to cherish in traditional institutions, urging politicians not to completely wipe out traditional institutions.

“Whichever office a politician holds is transient and it has a terminal date, our sons and daughters that found themselves in political leadership should strive hard to strengthen traditional institution” he said.

However, the monarch urging the media organization to ensure every side is given fair hearing in their reportage.

Oba Oyelude made this known on Thursday while speaking with members of the Osun

The monarch, who is the Patron of the Association, reminded the media practitioners of their roles as watchdogs of the society, urging them to ensure balanced reportage of political events as they unfold.

“I want to urge you to ensure that you give all sides fair hearing. Make your platform available for them and ensure you have the love of the Osun State at hearts.

“APC, ADC, PDP and others are the same and no one has bigger love of the masses at heart than you and you must ensure you have the people as the bedrock of your reports. You are the watchdogs of the society and must remain so.”

The monarch commended the publishers for the refreshers course, describing it as a necessity for development.
