Osun: NMA Members Protest Brutal Killing Of Colleague By Suspected Bandits

The NMA members however expressed sadness over the gruesome murder of Prof Jerome Boluwaji Elusiyan by the suspected bandits in Edo state, calling on the security agency to intensify efforts by ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Recall that Prof Jerome Boluwaji Elusiyan was murdered last week by the suspected bandits while returning returning back from Irrua, Edo State to Ile-Ife.

The protesters who stormed major streets of Osogbo, the state capital of Osun to register their grievances over the untimely death of their colleague by the men of the underworld enough of killings of innocent Nigerians.

Armed with placards with various inscription, the bereaved members of NMA called on the government to as a matter of urgency find lasting solution to the problem of insecurity facing the country.

Speaking, the chairman of NMA, Osun Prof Edward Komolafe said the primary responsibility of any government is to provide adequate security for its people to move freely around the country without any fear.

Komolafe further said that the government should put an end to killing of the innocent citizens on Nigerian highways which he said was perpetrated by bandits.

He urged the government to recognize the deceased and give him befitting honour and care for his family.

According to him, “We are here to protest brutal killing of one of our colleagues, Prof Jerome Boluwaji Elusiyan who was murdered exactly one week ago on his returning back from Irrua to Ile-Ife.

“With a heavy full of grief, the NMA , register her sorrow over the gruesome murder of our member while he was returning from Irrua specialist hospital where he was an examiner in the final examination for Medical students.

“Doctors are citizen of this country we are the highest paying tax workers our life must be safeguarded , we should be free to move as doctors which can be called any moment to safe life.

While addressing the protesters at the State Headquarters, the Commissioner of police, Mrs Abiodun Ige described the incident as unfortunate which nobody is praying for, adding that
the police will use power within its limit to fight crime and bring crime to the barest minimum.

Ige assured them that agency saddled with the duty of protecting life and property will not deviate from their responsibilities .

According to CP, “the IG has spoken on it and has charged everybody to be out and ensure that we have patrol, the nooks and crannies are properly policed with the view of putting an end to such incident .

“By the grace of God we will try our best and everybody will be able to sleep without fear, she added
