Honourable Kehinde Ayantunji, Special Adviser To Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Social mobilization and student affairs, has disclosed that it is unlawful to impose tax on the students,
Ayantunji said students are not asked to pay tax but asking to bring their parents’ or guardians’ tax clearance to ascertain whether they have paid tax.
He added that it is a criminal offence for citizens not to ppay ttax.
He stated in an interview with the Namacos Editorial Board Editor-In-Chief yesterday.
According to his, “It’s an erroneous impressions to impose tax payment on students. It’s even criminal . The question we are asking here is that your parents must pay tax. And what the school authority is asking for is that if you have a parent or guardian any of them must pay tax so you will need to show the proof that they pay this is why your tax clearance is needed.
“You cannot be enjoying Government facilities without paying tax and nobody is saying that students should pay tax. It’s ‘go and meet your’ parents/guardians let them give you their tax clearance and that is.
“So nobody is asking any students to pay tax clearance.
“It is a criminal offence for anybody to not pay tax.”
The Honorable also decried the impression had on the last SUG election of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, he said I hate what happened in the last election and I have told them, that shouldn’t repeat itself.
“I am not comfortable with the elections where students will be displaying cutlasses, guns. I will not be comfortable with election that is characterized by violence. The philosophy of this Institution where I graduated from is academic excellence in character.”
Adding that any students caught constituting violence during the election would not only be arrested as a criminal, would be prosecuted as well and expelled from the institution.
