The Management of Osun State polytechnic, Iree, has locked up 46 cyber cafe and computer businesses centres in the institution premises over non complies with land rent payment.
TheSource gathered that the institution closed down the businesses centres through the Works Department of the institution on Tuesday, following the increment of land rent from N5,000 to N20,000 each in January 2021.
This medium learnt that the leadership of cyber cafe and computer business owners in the institution have held several meetings with the school authority appealing for reduce of the new land rent payment to N10,000, but all efforts yield no positive result.
It was also gathered that the leadership of the computer businesses center who approached Osun Poly management with N500,000 to permit their members to continue with their business was rejected.
Speaking, one of the member who simply identified himself as Abimbola said the leadership of the association has consulted the school authority several times immediately the management increased land rent from N5000 (five thousand) to N20,000 (twenty thousand) in January.
Abimbola further said that the management decision caught them unaware adding that they will appeal to the school authority to consider them by paying the rent twice.
According to him, “The Osun Poly management resisted us from opening our business since Monday 24 May, 2021 for four days, locking up our business centers is not the best option. They increased the annual land rent from N5000 (five thousand) to N20,000 (twenty thousand).
