OYES beneficiaries cry out unpaid four months stipends

The Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES) beneficiaries have cried out to the State Government over non-payment of their stipend of over four months salary.

Some of the beneficiaries who confined on our correspondent said they are planning to stage a protest over the unpaid stipends from February to May.

Recall, OYES is one of the sex points integral action plan of former Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola to reduce unemployment rate of the state which over sixty thousand youths have benefited from.

“Since the beginning of this year, our faith on welder we will still be working under the scheme has become skeptical and unclear to us” beneficiaries in the state capital lamented.

Explaining the hardship that the unpaid stipends has caused to their livelihood during the period of COVID-19 lockdown they said “We can no longer meet up with some certain responsibilities as usual.”

“While other state workers under both the state and local government are receiving their salaries during the lockdown, we the OYES cadets were neglected and even denied stimulus package” they said.

A beneficiary from Ede local government, who simply identified himself a Babawale, said since the unpaid stipends started situation has been “awful” for him in the last three months.

He said his wife is a private school teacher who has also not been receivie salaries since the past four closed, which makes things more difficult for his family.

Another beneficiary of the scheme from Irepodun LG, Ogunmode Ismail, said he has been broke to the point that he contemplated suicide in this critical period.

He maintained that the unpaid stipends to OYES cadets across the state by the state government, under Governor Gboyega Oyetola is an ill-treatment to beneficiaries of the scheme.
