The lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewumi Adeyemi, has charged Governor Gboyega Oyetola to intensify his efforts at governance if his administration is to be termed successful.

Honourable Adewumi who was speaking during a recent interview in Osogbo, the state capital, opined that the success of any administration is measured by visible social impact and not by the often deceptive comments of sycophants with personal or selfish interest.

Ahead of the governor’s second anniversary, the lawmaker popularly referred to as Irekandu alerted the governor against complacency and urged him to be cautious of the activities of praise singers whose comments may belie reality, adding that the purpose of governance will be defeated if the ordinary people cannot enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“He needs to buckle up because there is a lot of work for him to do. He is on the halfway now, and some people will only tell him what to hear. He should try as much as possible to know what’s happening in our various constituencies. People come around and they’ll tell him he’s doing fine but they will not tell him he needs to buckle up and that is why I am telling him that he needs to buckle up so that the welfare of our people can improve.”

“The governor has been doing some laudable things. For instance, the minimum wage that he just approved, I commend him for that. The embargo that was placed on the promotion of workers, he also worked on that, which is also very good but there are other areas he needs to work on. He needs to work on pensions, gratuities as well as infrastructure….so the governor should not relent. He has a lot more to do.”

Irekandu noted that he has always wished the governor a successful stay in office despite being a member of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party. He was however quick to add that beyond the good wishes, Governor Oyetola must realize that he is a governor of not just the urban but also the rural residents of the state.

The Obokun lawmaker, who rode to office on the back of an overwhelming popular vote, seized the opportunity to remind the governor of the need for more teachers in his constituency as well as motorable roads for farmers and residents, in addition to potable water.

“This should not be about politics but reality. I once said that I want the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to be successful. I represent Obokun State Constituency and I know the challenges that we are facing in my constituency. We need roads, schools, water and we need teachers in our schools. Now, if Governor Gboyega Oyetola can do this, he is successful. I want the welfare of my people to improve, so I want him to be successful.”

Irekandu also disclosed that he will continue to push for people-oriented bills at the House of Assembly as part of his efforts to ensure quality representation and better living conditions for his constituents and residents of the state at large.

Honourable Adewumi Adeyemi, who is one of the two youngest lawmakers in the House and a member of several House Committees, is known for his astute and shrewd contributions to issues raised on the floor of the House.

He continues to represent the good people of Obokun State Constituency in a manner that has earned him praise and respect from all and sundry, even outside of his political party.
