The Oyo State Government on Thursday commenced the disbursement of the first batch of compensation totaling N264 million to property owners affected by the construction of the Senator Rasheed Adewolu Circular Road.

The presentation of cheques took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Agodi, Ibadan.

Prior to the disbursement, the government conducted an identification and verification exercise for the affected property owners along the project corridor, after which the properties were valued for compensation.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, stated that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration earmarked N264 million for the first batch of compensation.

He explained that the government deemed it necessary to compensate landowners affected by the project, noting that the road would significantly enhance the state’s development.

Williams said both the government and the affected property owners carried out a thorough scrutiny of the claims to ensure fairness.

The commissioner also urged property owners with genuine documents to approach the Ministry for appropriate compensation.

“The Governor has earmarked the sum of two hundred and sixty-four million naira (N264,000,000.00) as compensation to the affected claimants in the first batch of this exercise,” he said.
