Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command have arrested a suspected bandit around Kudaru Forest in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State and intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle and AK47 rifle.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammed Jalige, in a statement on behalf of the Police Commissioner, Umar Muri, said the suspect identified as Bello Abubakar was arrested during a shoot out.
He, however, said that Abubakar’s other gang members were at large, but the suspect had already volunteered some useful information that might lead to their arrest.
Jalige said: “The operatives of the Kaduna Police Command had, on the 18th June, 2021, at about 0745hrs, while on a routine patrol along Kudaru Forest in Saminaka, Lere LGA of Kaduna State, intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle (Golf) green in colour with Reg. No.KAG 142 AA heading towards Kaduna.”
“The operatives noticed the suspicious disposition of the occupants of the said vehicle and tried to flag them down. They immediately parked some distance away and took to their heels into the forest,” he added.
“The policemen, however, engaged them in a shootout of which they succeeded in apprehending one Bello Abubakar ‘M.’ When the vehicle was searched, an AK47 rifle was found concealed in a bid to escape the eagle eyes of the security forces along the route.
“The suspect is currently undergoing a thorough investigation and giving useful information to the police, while concerted efforts are ongoing with view to apprehending the fleeing members of the gang to face the full wrath of the law.
“The command is assuring members of the public that it will do everything possible to ensure that members of the gang are dislodged and their operational weapons recovered, while charging officers and men to be vigilant at all times to effectively police their areas of responsibilities,” Jalige noted.
