A combined team of police and vigilante have arrested three suspects for alleged possession of guns and incessant shootings at Ale Igwe quarters, in Owa-Alero community, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspects include Monday Igwe, Frank Ewere Mafile (32yrs) and Ngozi Elelegwu (39yrs).

The Police also recovered two (2) locally made cut-to-size pistols with one (1) locally made double barrel gun and three (3) live cartridges from the suspects.

The first suspect was arrested following a report at the Owa-Oyibu Division by a complainant that there is incessant gun shots in Owa-Alero community around the residence of one Monday Igwe.

Consequently, the Police conducted a search wherein two (2) locally made cut-to-size pistols were recovered.

The first suspect (Monday Igwe) named one Frank Ewere Mafile, who he claimed supplied him cartridges.

Consequently, the police arrested Frank Ewere Mafile at his home. Two (2) locally made cut-to-size pistol was also recovered from him.

DAILY POST gathered that the confession of Mafile also led to the arrest of one Ngozi Elelegwu (39yrs) of Anslem Street off Ogbocho road by General Hospital Owanta. One (1) locally made double barrel gun and three (3) live cartridges were recovered from him.

He admitted to have sold twelve (12) live cartridges to Frank Ewere Mafile at the rate of six thousand five hundred naira (N6,500).

The Delta State Police Command led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali confirmed the report in a statement signed by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe.

According to the police, “Monday Igwe also confessed that he bought the arms at Nnewi in Anambra State at the rate of thirty thousand naira each (N30, 000.00).”

The Police added that the suspects have been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
