The police yesterday busted three training camps of the militant wing of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and arrested kingpins of the group.

The three IPOB/ESN terrorist camps are located at Atta in Ikeduru, Izombie in Oguta and Ideato North local government areas of Imo State.

The Special Adviser (SA) on Media to the Imo State Police Commissioner, CSP Mike Abatam, in a statement, said the operation was carried out on June 25 at about 4.am following information obtained from some IPOB/ESN kingpins.

CSP Abatam said the kingpins led the police to their camps and that on sighting the tactical team approaching, the hoodlums opened fire and the police replied.

He explained that, “But, due to the superior firing power of the police, the hoodlums were overran and some arrested and others escaped with bullet wounds.

“Several weapons, stolen cars, explosives, gun powder, charms, lPOB/ESN flags, ammunition, bags of Indian hemp, tramadol tablets and many other hard drugs were recovered.”
